Our students are back at school, learning is underway, schedules and routines are being established. So how do we keep our children focused, organised, managing their time and staying on top of homework and projects? In other words, how do we build and support executive function skills in our children at home?
What are executive function skills? These are our ability to plan and organise, pay attention and stay focused on a task, regulate our emotions and be flexible thinkers, as well as reflect and self monitor our actions.
If you are thinking that these are critical skills for everyone – they are! For some children, they come naturally, and for many others, they are skills that need to be taught, modeled and reinforced.
